RFID
Loyalty Marketing
How are companies keeping in touch with
customers as they add technology to automate
customer interface processes? Consumer ID
systems based on an RFID
system
can personalize both automated and
semi-automated interaction with products,
services, or personnel. Keeping track of the
customers walking in the door, their likes,
dislikes and how they want to be served,
empowers businesses to cater to each
individual's personal preferences.
The technology can tell retailers exactly
who's in their store at any given moment
while offering full purchase histories for
each shopper. In addition, stores will know
what the customer bought at their last visit
and what they might need for accessories.
The hospitality and service industries can
also benefit from RFID technology.
Restaurants can record information such as
favorite table, beverage choice, and even
meal preference. Hotels may register data
such as room preferences, climate control
settings, and even personalized voice mail.
Surveys show customer satisfaction and
retention depends upon the quality of the
service received. In this era of
technological automation, RFID can
still provide that human touch.
How It Works
A consumer with an
RFID card, KeyFOB or Token
in their purse, pocket, or wallet can be
detected by reader systems at doorways.
Readout antennas can also be in counters,
walls, and in floors. The tag is powered by
radio frequency signals issued from the
reader. As the consumer passes by a reader
system, the tag transmits its unique ID code
to the reader. The reader then communicates
this activation to a central database.

Transponders can either be
Read Only (RO),
Read/Write (R/W), or
Digital Signal Transponders (DST).
Read Only contains a unique factory code.
Read/Write allows users to reprogram codes
many times.
DST offers more memory for system history
tracking and additional authorization. This
helps prevent fraud-related thefts.
